HARGAISA(SAHALNEWS)-Somalia’s breakaway state of Somaliland on Monday opened its polling satiations with hundreds of people lined up in major towns to vote.

More than 873,000 are set to pick their favorite leader as three major parties’s campaigns been concluded in Hargaisa this week.

“I woke up early morning to vote for the ongoing election, people have different political choices but mine will be secret until electoral commission reveals results”  Abdixamid Moumin has told Sahalnews over the phone.

Elections are meant to be held every five years, however the poll was delayed for two years due to drought and other technical issues.

Muuse’s Bihi’ Kulmiye and Wadani leader Abdurrahman Irro are reportedly expected to be in loggerheads during the presidential election.

The northern territory, which is more tribally homogenous and stable than the rest of Somalia, broke away in 1991 and has been striving to attain international recognition ever since.
