MOGADISHU,(SAHALNEWS)-Former Al-shabaab deputy leader and spokesman Shiekh Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansor on Sunday surrendered himself to Federal authorities in Bakool region.

The leader with his fighters have opted the move after repeated attacks by his former group.

At least 19 people have been killed in an attack which the Somali militants tried to capture Abu Mansoor who is reportedly defied a reunion call which is offered by Al-shabab earlier last week.

It was not immediately clear whether Robow’s decision to defect was related to a move by the United States government two months ago to take off the notorious militant commander from a list of wanted terrorists.

Reports say that defected leader was flown to Mogadishu along his fighters to further held talks with the gov’t over a possible amnesty.
